Salon Thoreau

Salon Thoreau invites artists of the Thoreau Center community to participate in our first (but not our last!) salon event. We would like you to:
  • Read your poetry/short story/creative nonfiction piece
  • Share your drawings/photography with us
  • Show a video/film you have made
  • Put on a short Dance or theatrical performance
  • Other (Explain)
Guests from the Thoreau Center community are encouraged to participate. We would especially like to hear about work that focuses on:
  • Our democratic ideals of opportunity and freedom of speech
  • Sustainability
  • Racial justice
  • Civic engagement
  • Celebrating the life and work of Henry David Thoreau
Salon Thoreau will take place in the Thoreau Gallery. The first gathering is scheduled for Thursday, March 24, 4:30PM to 5:30PM. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Performances should be no longer than 3-5 minutes. We welcome you to participate as a performer. If you wish to perform, please contact bruce@thoreau.org before March 18th stating what format your contribution will take, and give us a couple of sentences describing your performance.

What is a ‘Salon’? From Wikipedia

A salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase their knowledge of the participants through conversation. These gatherings often consciously followed Horace's definition of the aims of poetry, "either to please or to educate" ("aut delectare aut prodesse est").
